CALL FOR PANEL MEMBERS - Pirandello and Modern Italian Writers: From Page to Stage [CLOSED]

2025-10-29

From Page to Stage is an ArtsLab Theme at the University of Glasgow that bridges theatre, opera, song, film, and other forms of performance. Our aim is to create dialogue between performance, translation, sociology and artistic research. Our activities are in education and in community development and cross a range of different languages and time periods. We value a performance-sensitive approach to understanding adaptations between cultures and media.

This panel will focus on the Pirandello and modern Italian writers, and the processes, patterns, and practitioners involved when shifting their works from page to stage. We particularly welcome submissions from scholars, students, translators, theatre practitioners, and other creative industries, and encourage interdisciplinary approaches that intersect with broader questions around the dynamics involved in cross‑cultural encounters and transnational exchanges.

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Theatre Translation
  • Performing Arts (drama, music, dance, opera, song, digital performance)
  • Agents and Networks
  • Minoritised performance cultures
  • Inclusion
  • Adaptation processes
  • Behind-the-scenes practices
  • Materiality
  • Embodiment
  • Immersion
  • Transmediality

Abstracts and biographies of c.200 words each for papers of 20 minutes’ duration should be sent to Dr Enza De Francisci at enza.defrancisci@glasgow.ac.uk
