Call for submissions opens
The initial call for contributions to the Scottish Journal of Open Research is now open.
We welcome contributions addressing all aspects of open research, including but not limited to open access, research data management, open research tools and support mechanisms, training and indicators. A broad range of article types will be considered, including editorials, research articles, discussions, case studies, perspectives on open research practice and culture, reports of developments in the field, book reviews, registered reports, opinion pieces and meeting reports.
The editors of SJOR warmly invite submissions for the first issue from members of Open Research Scotland, whether as solo authors or with other authors within or beyond the mailing list. We particularly invite people who may not have a lot of experience with publishing, as this is a journal pilot, and we are all on this learning journey together. We aim for the journal to be as open and informative as open research itself, and we cannot wait to get started.
Initial submissions of between 500 and 5,000 words should be submitted through the journal submissions page by 28 February 2025. Subject to any unexpected challenges we hope to publish the first batch of articles before the end of April 2025. We expect to use a rolling publication model in the future. Because this is a journal pilot, we cannot provide specific timelines for the review process at this time but will add this information as soon as possible. After about 30 articles we will evaluate the journal processes, directions and potential problems, and will provide an update.
For submission guidelines please see: SJOR Submissions. If you have any questions about your submission – or if you’ve got an idea that you’d like to discuss with the editors before preparing a manuscript – please just get in touch at sjor@glasgow.ac.uk
If you are not ready to submit to this call, do not worry – there will be more in future.
Best wishes,
Valerie McCutcheon (Managing Editor) on behalf of the Editors
