About the Journal
The idea for this journal stems from our meetings within the Open Research Scotland Group. We meet twice a year, with representatives from over 40 institutions across Scotland and the UK, to discuss how to further open research. We consider specific topics such as news in open access, publisher agreements, funder requirements or data management, but we also raise much more general questions and challenges. We consider ourselves a voice for open research in Scotland and with the launch of this journal we provide a new platform to enhance communication within the open research community and beyond. In fact, rather than keeping meeting outcomes in minutes on our website or in blogs scattered across the web, we are seeking one channel to share information, ideas and opinions around open research with a wide audience. We’re excited to start the journey of the Scottish Journal of Open Research together with you!
We can’t stress enough that, while this journal originates from Open Research Scotland meetings, it is for everyone to contribute, read and get involved. Our vision is to make this a first go-to for anyone with an interest in open research practice. We invite contributions from a wide range of authors, whether professional services staff, academics, support staff, senior management, students, funders, suppliers, or members of the public. Our publications will enhance information and spread the message about the advantages of open research for communities far and wide. In fact, this journal aims to be as open and informative as open research itself and we can’t wait to get started.
