About the Journal

Business and Industrial History: A Journal of Archival Research is a journal for archivists and historians to share and develop knowledge and awareness of business and industrial history and archives both in Scotland and internationally.

The journal is published by the Business Archives Council of Scotland and the Centre of Business History in Scotland at the University of Glasgow.

Submissions

Business and Industrial History welcomes submissions from both archivists and historians. The journal offers a space in which professionals and academics can enter into a dialogue and learn from their respective practices and research.

All articles are peer reviewed in an open, transparent and supportive manner. Submissions are particularly encouraged from PhD students and early career archivists and researchers. A style guide for submissions is avialable here

History of the journal

The BIH journal has been published by BACS since 1977 and was previously known as Scottish Business and Industrial History (2011-2023) and Scottish Industrial History (1977-2010). During this time it published historical research by professional historians and independent scholars, covering a wide range of topics on Scotland’s business and industrial past. into all periods and facets of Scotland’s industrial and commercial past.
