Welcome to Glasgow Medical School!
First of all, well done! Forget about that
bloody UCAT, those pesky past papers
and all those silly interviews. You
smashed it out of the park and now it’s
time for you to work hard and play even
harder – and this is where we come in…
MedChir has been kicking around since
1802, making it one of the oldest
societies in Scotland. Over those years
MedChir has consistently hosted
educational events, social events and
made sure nobody goes thirsty on
Thursdays.
This year we’re kicking things off with a
Holy Trinity of events to give you a
proper Glaswegian welcome. First up is
Welcome Night, for Freshers to get to
know each other over some free pints.
This is being followed by our Ceilidh so
you can throw each other about, meet
people in other years, and, if you’re not
Scottish and have no idea what a Ceilidh
is, come along and find out. And finally,
Medic Families – a night to meet your
medic parents, grandparents, uncles and
aunties and let them teach you the ways
of MedChir.
There are so many more events to look
forward to; getting dressed up for the
incredible MedChir Ball or putting your
lab coats to good use for the infamous
Scrubby – a sub crawl like no other.
There are plenty of events to keep you
entertained and one that you ought to
know of is the Scottish and Northern
Irish Medics Sports Tournament – AKA
SNIMS.
Imagine collecting 1500 Medics in a city
in Scotland for a ‘sports day’ sandwiched
between two nights out? Chaotically
incredible right? Well, lucky you, because
this year that city is Glasgow and it’s a
weekend you would be sorry to miss.
We have plenty of events planned this
year. We want you to look back one day
when you are a shit hot doctor and
appreciate that some of the best years of
your life weren’t just spent in the library!
We can’t to meet you all in September,
maybe in the Library – probably in Beer
Bar.
Did I mention free pints?
